UNIPORT STUDENTS PROTEST KILLING OF FOUR OF THEIR STUDENTS


Hundreds of Uniport students staged a protest at Portharcourt and blocked the East-West road preventing vehicles in and out of Portharcourt. The students are said to be protesting the lynching of four male undergraduates of the University by a mob in Aluu community. The students who were prevented from entering the Aluu community have called for the sack of the DPO of Isiokpo over the inability of his men to stop the mob action when they were called in. Reports say there has been high presence of security men in the area.

Meanwhile,   The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has taken over the Choba-Uniport axis of the East- West road protesting the gruesome murder of four undergraduates of the University of Portharcourt. The students in their large number are demanding explanation into the killing of the students in Aluu community last Friday. Vice President of NANS, Elimemenn Morino told  Coolwazobiainfo correspondent, Soibi Oruwari that the school authority has been evasive on the matter adding that the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ajienka has refused to speak with them despite all efforts made.


The protesting students are also demanding explanation for one thousand Naira security fee by the school authority and the reversal of accommodation fees back to two thousand Naira among other things.

Meanwhile the Dean of Students Affairs of the school, Prof. Henry Bellgam said NANS delegates did not follow due process hence reason they were not attended to. He however assured that every student will get hostel accommodation in the coming academic session.

Some of the students expressed their disappointment in the way and manner security personnel handled the situation which led to the killing of the students. Reports say travelers and economic activities in the East West road axis were grounded as no vehicle was allowed to neither come in nor go out of the state.
