Who own's the Skies more? VIPS or VIPOORS?
Mchivir Edzuwah sent this as an email through a colleague to me. I guess it is best I allow my reader to make their judgements although after receiving this report, I immediately contacted Mr Yakubu Dati, spokesman of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). Dati's submission was critical as he emphasised that the suspension of Air crafts in the skies are mostly for security reasons and that it is a normal routine in the sector.
This piece below were the words of Mchivir Edzuwah a recent passenger of one of Nigeria's Airlines;
"On the 13th of October 2012, I purchased a ticket from Aero contractors
which was to depart from Lagos to abuja at 1:45pm. The flight was delayed for
an hour. We boarded a few minutes to 3pm and finally took off about 3: 20 pm.
On arriving abuja, the captain of the flight
announced that we weren't given clearance to land because some so called VIPs
were about to land or in the airport. We circled in the air for about 20
minutes until the weather became bad. The captain advised that it will be wiser
to go back to Lagos and so we did.
We (the passengers)were flown back to Lagos and
asked to take out all our items on the plane. We were asked 15 minutes
later to board the same plane.
Some people argued that the plane didn't have enough
fuel that's y we turned back but how could it be about fuel when the plan took
us all the way back to Lagos?
Will the safety of Nigerians continue to be played
with because of our leaders?
Someone who was in abuja airport when the VIPs
where present spoke about how their security men were breaking people's side
mirrors, windows n wind shields because the VIPs wanted to leave the air port
and civilians happened to be in their way.
How is it that our so called enlightened leaders
will see such maltreatment and not stop their security men from causing
destruction"
Mr Dati has said that the choice of flying back to Lagos by the Pilot was because of the primary safety of passengers as the weather suddenly was not favourable enough. He further applauded the Pilot for taking a good stand for the safety of passengers
