NATIONAL ASSEMBLY MOVES TO SCRAP SUBSIDY RE-INVESTMENT EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME (SURE-P)

A Joint Committee of the National Assembly on Petroleum Resources Downstream has called for the scraping of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme(SURE-P) alleging that the agency is duplicating activities being carried out by the  existing Ministries, Departments and government agencies in the country.
The Joint committee came hard on the Presidential committee on Subsidy Reinvestment headed by Christopher Kolade when it appeared before it to defend the 2013 budget proposal at the National Assembly in Abuja. The Chairman of the SURE-P,Christopher Kolade had told the lawmakers that 135 billion naira  was accrued to the agency up till the end of October, 2012  and the money has been channelled into construction of abandoned road projects, health care and skills acquisation programme.

Meanwhile, lawmakers disagreed with the Chairman of the agency saying that the task executed by the SURE-P has already been executed by the existing the Ministries  adding that with the advent of the SURE-P it is an indication that the Federal government has lost confidence in its main Ministries.
Speaking on the matter, a member of the House of Representatives, Peter Akpatason queried the SURE-P for not utilizing the funds to revitalize dead refineries in the country which will benefit Nigerians instead of wasting it on less important ventures.
In his response, Chairman of the SURE-P Committee, Christopher Kolade said it is not the duty of the National Assembly to decide the fate of the program, noting that the power is vested only on the Presidency whether the Program will remain or not.

I had a chat with Keri and she told me how excited she was coming to Nigeria, a place where here family genes was traced from a lineage that had over 90 per cent coming from Nigeria. Keri learnt to say "Kedu" and "Odinma", the Igbo terms that refer to greeting. Onstage, her performance of one of Flavour's songs and  D'banj's Oliver Twist clearly shows her attraction to African music. She wants to work with these artists as well.

Face of Sofa was also crowned at the event.

WAZOBIA FM ABUJA: YAX MAN NOMINATED FOR NIGERIA RADIO AWARDS

In a profile statement sent to my official email address, this young, dynamic and fast growing On Air Personality and Comedian tries to expressly present his real person to the Nigerian and international community.

"My name is Yakubu Abashiya, a confirmed Nigerian from Kaduna State. Studied Fine Arts in the famous Ahmadu Bello University Zaria. I am an artist, actor, comedian, mc/entertainer and an on-air personality with the people's station, Wazobiafm.

As a young man whose passion is to affect his generation positively, I will say it’s a big opportunity to be part of the media. If I am not working you can only catch me by a lake or a pond because I love fishing, if I am not fishing I will be sketching or dancing or better still, performing somewhere. I am a project unleashed to affect this generation and gradually e go reach ‘em permanent site.

While I strongly believe that life presents you with choices and all you need do is make one and thereafter face its consequences (because every choice comes with a responsibility), I also know that it is good to know these choices are there and you are responsible for anyone you make. I saw the need for a forum where young people could express themselves, share experiences without the fear of showing their ignorance about certain issues.
In creating an avenue where we (youths) could meet and share ideas, I had to put into consideration those things that can't be separated from us of which music is one. The other one is the issues we talked about which include ambition, entertainment, gossip, social life and most importantly, relationship. I come up with topics everyone can easily relate with so we can dissect and at the end, one can have a chance to make healthy as well as positive choices among many others…
